Review

It has been ages since I've read a Gena Showalter book, so when I got the opportunity to read Can't Hardly Breathe, I was totally in.

The premise of the book was fairly interesting. Both Thea and Daniel had difficult lives, both are scarred and the consequences of this can be seen in their everyday life and behaviour.
Thea, the female main character, was really well developed, we get many informations about what happened to her and what drives her actions, but I had some issues with the rest of the characters.

First of all, Daniel was kind of a douchebag who needed a whole new book just to redeem himself, I felt like some things could have been better developed. I think that Daniel lacked of depth, and even though there were full chapters narrated from his point view, there was something missing.

I had some problems also with their friends. I couldn't tell apart Thea's ones, and I felt like both Brock and Jude, Daniel's best friends, where puppets under Daniel shadows. I really want to read the next two books to see if my opinion will change.

The story itself was enjoyable and interesting to keep my attention going till the end of the book. Unfortunately I didn't read the previous books of this series, but I would have liked to read them to get a wider view, because some characters who appear in this book were the protagonists of the previous ones.

All in all, I had a good time reading it, but as previously said, some things made it difficult for me to fully appreciate and love the story.
